Results out now!

Drone view from near #74

Thanks so much for coming along last night, what a scorcher! It was awesome to see so many people (including many new to the sport) enjoying locating checkpoints over the hills. We had a record 330 people out there between the 1.5hour and the 3 hour, which I know may have caused a few delays on the gondola...although I also had reports that it was running slower because of the winds which didn't help matters.

Generally it sounded like people were able to locate controls successfully (except the mysterious 103 which went missing, but was replaced about 1 hour into the event). We were impressed with many of the scores and intrigued to hear that the winning team took one gondola ride up, ran down collecting points, then decided the queue was too big so ran up collecting points and took the gondola back down at the last minute. Not a bad strategy methinks!

Teams heading down to control 74

We had a few international teams competing as well... Danish Dynamite did very well with the second highest score. Also AR Poznan who had only been in the country two days managed to find his way around the valley very respectably to come 4th in the men's. In the mixed the top two team's (Matt and La, Team Ink Blob) linked up completing the course as a foursome... but unfortunately for Team Big Ink Blob their score card was mucked up causing points loss in our card reader. The results have now been adjusted to show their true score without the ink blob. Stephanie Smithson blitzed around solo to take out the women's and the speedy juniors Josh Jansen and Reuben Scott had a very high score of 2020 winning the junior grade.

The sausages, mince pies, fresh fruit and christmas puddings seemed to be a hit and it was great to see everyone sharing rogaine stories on the cricket lawn afterwards. Chris's clue card reader perhaps didn't save us so much time this time, but it meant people didn't have to add up their scores and in the future he is optimistic it will get results in faster... just might require a bit more development, so thanks for being our guinea pigs!

All and all we always enjoy putting on the Christmas Rogaine and seeing people getting out and enjoying the navigational and physical challenge in a festive spirit! A big thank you to our parents who slave over the BBQ and food to get it all organised, and to Greg who collected half of the controls today!

Until next year, happy rogaining and Merry Christmas!

Last Minute Things you NEED

Tomorrow is shaping up to be awesome! The weather forecast has a big sun, the controls are happily hiding over nooks and crannies of the Heathcote Valley, watermelons, mince pies and other such goodies fill our garage.... and we have over 60 teams pre-entered!

These are three items you need to remember to pack:
1. You need to remember a pen or pencil to write down your control codes or else you won't get any points!

2.  You need a bowl, cup and spoon if you want any christmas pud or juice at the finish!
3. You need a pair of gaiters and shoes which are reasonably thick fabric on top as the seeds are out in force and you will end up with horrible prickle feet!
Hopefully that helps. Looking forward to seeing you all there tomorrow night, ho ho ho!

Chris and I spent a fun weekend exploring the map and setting out some lovely controls for you this weekend and we have found some great places we think you probably haven't been before!

Additional 1.5 Hour Category
We have also added in a fun 1.5 hour category for families wishing to take young ones out for a shorter rogaine experience. This will start at about 6.30 after the 3 hour competitors have started and run until 8pm.
